Doctorate: engineering sciences at the service of innovation

A school passionate about research

Training in research, and through research, the innovators of tomorrow: Arts et Métiers, a center for scientific production and knowledge dissemination, is one of the few engineering schools to offer doctoral degrees.

" Doctoral training is a real differentiating factorArts et Métiers," says Laurent Champaney, Director General. "It is a criterion of scientific excellence that contributes to the dynamism of research and the international reputation of the school."

Thanks to their proximity to the school's laboratories and faculty members, engineering students are exposed to scientific issues throughout their studies. The research master's degree or engineering degree, particularly at Arts et Métiers, offers interested young people a program that combines theoretical teaching and research work. They then have everything they need to start doctoral training, dedicated to defining the thesis topic and completing it.

Scientific experts sought after by industry

The school's laboratories welcome some 350 doctoral students from Arts et Métiers. For three years, they benefit from a unique environment of cutting-edge technology and expertise, while contributing to high-value-added scientific projects.

Once they have graduated, Arts et Métiers PhD graduates Arts et Métiers pursue an academic career. They also have skills that are highly sought after in the job market. "A PhD is a career accelerator," confirms Laurent Champaney. "It opens up many positions for scientific experts—profiles that are particularly sought after by industry."

A progressive path toward the thesis

  • Preparation starting with the master's degree. The engineering degree or research master's degree at Arts et Métiers raises awareness of scientific issues from the outset, with a balance between theoretical teaching and research work.
  • This program is a natural stepping stone to a doctorate, where students define and complete a thesis topic.
