CHIMERA CHAIR

CHIMERA CHAIR

CHIMERA, which stands for Chair of HybrId Modelling of ElectRical Assets, is an ambitious five-year research partnership led Arts et Métiers AMValor on behalf of the Arts et Métiers group, which will focus on the hybridization of physical models using data. It will draw on the expertise of the L2EP and PIMM laboratories.

Better characterize the risk of default

Launched in June 2023, the aim of this chair is to optimize the supervision and maintenance of the French electricity transmission network: in order to accelerate the energy transition while controlling daily risks to the network, it is essential to adjust maintenance on electricity network infrastructure.

To monitor the operation of this equipment and implement appropriate maintenance operations, a process for digitizing and centralizing information and equipment dedicated to network monitoring is necessary.

Physical models necessarily differ from reality. Furthermore, it is unrealistic to imagine that knowledge can be based exclusively on collected data, as this would require too much data! We therefore start with the physical model and, as soon as it differs from the collected data, we use AI to create a model of this discrepancy based on the data.

Professors Francisco Chinesta and Xavier Kestelyn, coordinators of the CHIMERA Chair

The work carried out by the CHIMERA chair will contribute to furthering this approach by jointly modeling these data and physics in order to better predict the individualized states of a facility throughout its life cycle. For RTE, this is a way of better characterizing the risk of failure by taking into account aging as well as the actual operation of each piece of equipment.
