Doctoral training program: Meeting the scientific and societal needs of tomorrow

The doctoral program is a training program designed by and for research and development. It provides professional experience geared toward the innovation needs of businesses. The Arts et Métiers doctoral program Arts et Métiers a benchmark for businesses in many technological fields:

  • Developing transferable skills for industry
  • Anticipating and responding to scientific and societal needs: industry of the future
  • Strengthen the institution's international academic excellence
  • Contribute to the scientific reputation of the institution.

Doctoral students, supervised by a thesis advisor, are integrated into one of Arts et Métiers 14 research laboratories. They
are directly involved in the scientific and technological problems encountered by companies.

A structure dedicated to supervising doctoral students

Doctoral School 432 "Engineering Sciences", directed byFodil Meraghni, plays a leading role in the dynamism of research. Since 2015, it has incorporated six laboratories from the CNAM ( Conservatoire national des arts et métiers).

The role of the doctoral school is essential. First and foremost, it is responsible for organizing and monitoring the training of doctoral students, in conjunction with the research teams that host them. The priority is to ensure the quality of the doctoral students' work and the supervision of their theses. It is also responsible for monitoring the future careers of doctoral graduates. 

The doctoral school draws on 26 research units, 15 of which are affiliated with Arts et Métiers.
Five major thematic areas are highlighted:

  • Solid Mechanics and Materials
  • Fluids and Energy 
  • Design and Industrialization
  • Mathematics, Computer Science, and Systems
  • Healthcare Engineering

It currently has around 350 doctoral students, who contribute directly to the scientific and technological issues addressed by the research units. In most cases, they participate in collaborative research projects in partnership with companies.

In addition, each Arts Métiers campus has at least one local doctoral supervisor (RSLD) and one doctoral administrative correspondent (CALD).
