Caroline Marc is one of five winners of this award, which recognizes outstanding scientific work at Arts et Métiers each year.

Following her thesis defense, Caroline Marc's work, conducted at LaBoMaP in Cluny, was nominated for the Pierre Bézier Prize. Several months later, the selection committee selected her application as one of the best, recognizing the excellence of her scientific research.

His award-winning research

Caroline Marc defended her thesis on "Characterization of delamination cracks and terahertz wave densitometry: from the local properties of veneer to the mechanical performance of LVL," which she completed as part of the Wood Materials and Machining (MUB) team at the LaBoMaP laboratory on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny.

Her thesis develops non-destructive characterization methods to accurately quantify two key characteristics of veneers: peeling cracks and local density. The aim is to provide manufacturers with reliable, fast, and automated tools to optimize the sorting, manufacturing, and final performance of plywood panels.

A postdoctoral fellowship at Linnaeus University, combining forestry and artificial intelligence

Following on from her thesis, Caroline Marc is continuing her work as a postdoctoral researcher at Linnaeus University in Växjö, Sweden, within the Faculty of Building Technology.
While wood remains the focus of her research, this new project incorporates more artificial intelligence, particularly for material modeling.

"My postdoctoral research remains closely linked to wood, but now incorporates a more pronounced dimension of artificial intelligence, particularly for modeling," she explains.

This two-year postdoctoral contract is part of a phase of scientific consolidation and openness to new methodological approaches.
