Education - International Students
In France, there are two types of higher education institutions: universities and Grandes Écoles. Arts et Métiers a Grande École and offers a three-year program leading to a national engineering degree (equivalent to a Master's degree). Our students are recruited through a national competitive exam
after two years of higher education, mainly in preparatory classes or IUT/BTS. The first year at Arts et Métiers equivalent to the third and final year of a Bachelor's degree in a traditional university science program. Each year is worth 60 European credits (ECTS). After this final year, students can start working or continue their studies, for example in a PhD program.
Teaching Method - International Students
- A week at Grande École lasts from Monday morning to Friday evening, with compulsory attendance at all classes.
- If you are in the PGE program, you will have very busy weeks of classes. For international students coming from the university system, this pace of work will certainly require a period of adjustment.
- You will need to work regularly and plan ahead for your exams well in advance. Leaving it to the last minute will not be enough!
- The course consists of:
- Lectures: the teacher talks and students take notes in large groups.
- Practical Work (PW): this is carried out in a small group setting in a laboratory, in front of a computer, etc. It allows students to verify and supplement the knowledge acquired during theoretical classes.
- Internships/projects: in companies or laboratories to put the skills acquired in the professional environment into practice in real-life situations.
- Attendance is mandatory (classes, lectures, practicals, projects, internships, visits, etc.).
