As part of a student project in partnership with the CFBP (French Butane and Propane Committee), Eric Ancel and Antoine Philippe-Manchec, third-year engineering students at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne, are participating in the Tour des Solutions Alternatives (Alternative Solutions Tour). This adventure, which will take place from Tuesday, February 6 to Saturday, February 17, will see the students promoting innovative initiatives in favor of sustainable development in six French cities.

The Alternative Solutions Tour, an eco-citizen initiative

Launched in 2016 by the French Butane Propane Committee (CFBP) and the Eco-Car Club (CVE), the Tour des Solutions Alternatives gives students the opportunity to discover innovative regional initiatives on the theme of the circular economy and sustainable development while limiting the impact of travel on the environment. For the third edition of this tour, six students from three prestigious schools (Arts et Métiers, Toulouse Business School, and the Institute for Nature Management and Protection) are embarking on the adventure to take up the challenge! The CFBP is providing them with a vehicle that runs on LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), a solution that the association wishes to promote.

Arts et Métiers the heart of current energy and environmental issues

Currently third-year engineering students at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne, Eric Ancel and Antoine Philippe-Manchec have chosen to specialize in "Alternative Engines and Fuels" for their final year. The aim of this course is to train operational engineers in all areas related to alternative engines and fuels. The Tour des Solutions Alternatives (Alternative Solutions Tour) is not only a natural extension of their training, but also their final year project.

Student ambassadors

Eric and Antoine will be the first to take their seats in the car provided by the CFBP. They will travel to Châlons-en-Champagne (February 6-7), Paris ( February 8-9), Lille ( February 12-13), Metz ( February 14), Cluny ( February 15-16), and Lyon (February 17). This choice is no coincidence, given that Arts et Métiers an Arts et Métiers campus in five of the six cities on the itinerary (Châlons-en-Champagne, Paris, Lille, Metz, and Cluny). Students will be required to:

  • 1. Promote an innovative initiative promoting sustainable development in each city
  • 2. Communicate about the various promotional activities via the Tour des Solutions Alternatives social media channels.
  • 3. Organize conferences and workshops to raise student awareness of eco-citizen initiatives.
  • 4. Present expertise in "Alternative Engines and Fuels"

On the first day of the tour, which will begin on Tuesday, February 6 in Châlons-en-Champagne, the students will visit Engie Cofely, a company specializing in energy. Eric and Antoine will see natural gas cogeneration facilities. This method, used by the company, consists of simultaneously producing two forms of energy—most often useful heat and electricity—within the same production plant. It is an efficient technique for using fossil and renewable energies, with primary energy consumption reduced by 10 to 35%.
