Expertise in industrial management: 5 years working closely with companies

5 years of expertise in industrial management
News

The Industrial Management expertise program provides training in industrial organization in the context of Industry 4.0. Program adaptation, launch of a training chair, professional training contract: Review and outlook for this expertise unit, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary.

A program that adapts to Industry 4.0

Theoretical courses in financial management and decision-making tools, practical work in IT and operational excellence on the new flexible production cell, and a six-month internship: this is the program for the year-long industrial management expertise course launched in 2015 on the Lille campus. According to Nathalie Klement, lecturer-researcher at LISPEN and head of industrial management expertise:"The academic program evolves each year to increasingly incorporate Industry 4.0 and thus better respond to industrial issues." To this end, many industrialists participate in classes to offer engineering students feedback and concrete examples. The internships offered by manufacturers are in line with this shift towards Industry 4.0. "Recently, several of our students have completed internships on digitalization in the supply chain or the adaptation of big data techniques in a production line," explains Nathalie Klement.

In five years, 118 Arts et Métiers engineers Arts et Métiers been trained in industrial organization and now work at companies such as MC2I, Coca-Cola, Colas, and Kaizen Institute.

Projects to enhance student immersion in the workplace

For the start of the 2021 academic year, Nathalie Klement wants to go further by launching a training chair whose objectives are to co-develop certain modules of expertise and offer projects that are increasingly in line with industrial reality. "We are looking to mobilize the institution's partners around a sponsorship agreement in order to set up this chair," explains Dorine Van Der Waals, head of corporate relations. The idea is to create a consortium of long-term partner companies that can contribute to certain educational modules and propose topics for study. The members of this consortium will also participate in the evaluation of engineering students. In response to the growing interest in this expertise among manufacturers and engineering students, Nathalie Klement is working to offer this expertise as a professional training contract for the start of the 2022 academic year. Companies will thus be able to welcome engineering students for a full year, alternating periods of training at the campuson current topics and periods of immersion in companies. "Industrial management professions are evolving, as are the demands of manufacturers. It is therefore normal for training to evolve," concludes Nathalie Klement.

A virtual event to celebrate 5 years of expertise

To celebrate five years of expertise, current students and alumni gathered for a virtual event in November. This was an opportunity for graduate engineers to present their career paths to students. The event was greatly appreciated by the students, as it allowed them to see the concepts taught in class being put into practice. This event will be repeated for each new graduating class.
