In 2022, Arts et Métiers a Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility (SD&SR) plan for 2023-2027. Among the actions carried out and projects planned for 2025 are the implementation of a digital plan, training in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for teachers, and energy efficiency improvements on campuses. Actions promoting diversity, inclusion, and equality are also being strengthened.
In December 2022, Arts et Métiers its 2023-2027 SD&SR action plan to mobilize its entire ecosystem to respond to the challenges of responsible reindustrialization.
The plan is based on the five pillars of the DD&RS label, in line with the objectives of the government's energy efficiency plan, the Grenoble Agreements, theADEME framework, and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
- Axis 1: Strategy, governance, and territorial anchoring
- Axis 2: Education and training
- Axis 3: Research and Innovation
- Axis 4: Environmental management
- Axis 5: Social policy
What progress has been made? What major projects are planned for 2025? Answers for each area.
Axis 1: Strategy, governance, and territorial anchoring
This is the axis that provides the general framework, organizes, and implements projects. It is supported by a working group composed of representatives from the deputy directorates and students.
In addition, this focus area coordinates a network of sustainable development representatives appointed at each site. Meetings are held every month to advance the action plan and local initiatives.
The priority for 2025 is to define and implement a digital action plan and establish a partnership with Ademe.
Axis 2: Education and training
The objectives of this focus area areto align the skills targeted for learners with the needs of the multi-technology trajectories defined in theADEME scenarios and to promote the development and dissemination of knowledge in sustainable engineering. One of its main projects is therefore the joint definition of the SD&ESR skills and learning outcomes required for Arts et Métiers engineers.
In particular, this focus area has introduced an 18-hour CSR foundation course for new teachers at the start of the 2024 academic year, as well as a catalog of training courses dedicated to sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.
Axis 3: Research and innovation
Arts et Métiers sustainable development and social responsibility a priority in its research and innovation strategy. This is evidenced by the ITTAI project (Innovative Territories, Technodiversity and AI for a resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Evolving Society). Developed over the past year by the Deputy Director General for Research and Innovation (DGARI) with the participation of several of the institution's laboratories and researchers, this project marksArts et Métiers commitmentArts et Métiers responding to society's needs with an approach that is both resilient and robust. Its objective is to offer advanced digital prototyping tools to regions to support them in their ecological transition and decision-making challenges.
ITTAI will be based on the use of design methods and processes that take user experience into account in order to offer solutions that are consistent with the behaviors and needs expressed by citizens.
To this end, seven partners will complement the scientific expertise of the Arts et Métiers laboratories: the Institut Mine Telecom, the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, the Institut Agro, the CNRS, the CNAM, Sciences Po Paris, andthe INSA de Lyon.Ademe is also showing strong interest in this project.
The priorities for 2025 areto identify pilot areas for the first case studies and to mobilize research teams in the various institutions to carry out the initial projects.
In 2025, DGARI is working in parallel with the CNRS and other research institutions to launch a Research Support Unit (UAR) to evaluate the impact of research projects.
Axis 4: Environmental management
Arts et Métiers seized the opportunities offered by the France Relance plan and resilience plans to accelerate the scheduling of its energy improvement work and the deployment of energy management and control tools.
A sustainability plan including audits and energy master plans was launched in 2022 to prioritize work to improve the environmental performance of its buildings.
In 2025, the main projects will involve installing building management systems (BMS) on theAngers, Bordeaux, Châlons-en-Champagne, and Cluny campuses. Major work will also be carried out in Cluny (renovation of the north wing of the residence), Lille (replacement and insulation of part of the workshop roofs) and Metz (replacement and insulation of the roofs of buildings A and B, replacement of the exterior joinery of building C).
In addition, the Paris campus will be connected to the district heating network, and various energy efficiency improvements (LED lighting, insulation, replacement of windows and doors, waterproofing, etc.) are planned on several campuses.
At the same time, an energy monitoring module will be deployed in the asset information system.
Axis 5: Social policy
The institution continues toimplement measures promoting diversity, social inclusion, and combating gender-based and sexual violence, harassment, and discrimination (VSSHD), gender equality, and welcoming people with disabilities.
Arts et Métiers now Arts et Métiers a specific statement on its commitment to and desire for the inclusion of people with disabilities in all of its job postings. Disability Awareness Week, organized last November to raise awareness and provide information on keeping people with disabilities in employment, was a resounding success, with a record number of views on Viva Engage posts and around 20 people applying to take part in Duo Day!
A VSSHD and diversity officer will continue and develop the institution's commitment to these issues. Specific training courses have been organized and attended by the Gender-Based Violence, Sexual Harassment, and Discrimination advisors, members of the reporting unit, and new teachers.
As part of the multi-year action plan ongender equality, training in inclusive writing was organized.
