The partnership between the institute and Orange aims to develop augmented reality remote collaboration tools for the maintenance of communication systems in industrial settings.
Bruno Caby, a former student in Master of Science and currently a doctoral student in partnership with Orange, has been developing tools since 2024 to facilitate simultaneous collaboration among multiple operators for the maintenance of communication systems such as fiber cabinets.
The main challenges involve capturing areas of interest from real-world systems in real time and rendering them remotely in a way that is both fast and easy for multiple remote operators to understand. To support his work, Bruno has assembled a team at Orange Labs that specializes in developing extended reality tools.
The origins of the partnership
The partnership with Orange began in 2020 when the first student from Master of Science in Chalon-sur-Saône completed an internship at Orange in Rennes. Following this, Orange sought to develop a stronger partnership with the institute through a joint doctoral thesis. This partnership aligns with the institute’s commitment to advancing the applications of extended reality in the industrial sector. With Orange, the focus is on remote collaboration for maintenance operations using augmented reality.
Further projects with Orange are being considered to build on the positive momentum of the collaboration with the institute in Chalon-sur-Saône.
