Eloïse MinderandMaël Sombret, two students in theMTI3D Master of Science program atthe Arts et Métiers Institute Arts et Métiers Chalon-sur-Saône, have developed a rehabilitation aid for people affected by COVID-19. After winning an award at Laval Virtual in July 2021, their project received an honorable mention at the latest edition of the Interverse Virtual Reality Challenge (IVRC) in Japan.

Their app, called "Rebirth-20," allows users wearing immersive glasses to perform a series of exercises in a virtual world. These physical exercises (movements, breathing, and relaxation) are based on those used in fibrosis rehabilitation. Virtual reality immerses the user in a bubble, a cocoon, where they can escape to the sounds of nature.

Armed with advice from the judges of the IEEE 3DUI Contest, held as part of the IEEE VR conference in April and then Laval Virtual in July 2021, Eloïse and Maël made a few improvements.

We added a teleportation option, translated it into Japanese, and worked on our texts to better capture the user's attention.

These improvements caught the attentionof Aimi Sekiguchi, a virtual reality artist and guest jury member. Her status allowed her to award them an honorary prize in her name.

This project left the deepest impression on me after the experience. I want children to experience it, emphasizes AimiSekiguchi.
