The Arts et Métiers social inclusion and equal opportunities program (OPTIM) has been certified "Cordée de la réussite" since the creation of this label in November 2008 by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the State Secretariat for Urban Policy. The 2019-2020 academic year marks the 14th consecutive year of operation for this program on the Cluny campus.
Objectives
The "cordées de la réussite" (success teams) are interministerial programs designed to develop the academic ambition of young people from modest backgrounds, particularly those living in priority neighborhoods (QPV) or isolated rural areas. A cordée is a partnership between secondary schools (called source schools) and one or more higher education institutions.
Specifically, OPTIM's objectives are:
- to provide academic support to middle and high school students who are part of the rope team,
- improve their self-confidence and self-esteem,
- to help them question their career choices,
- to develop their open-mindedness and curiosity by allowing them to participate in cultural outings.
Middle and high school students improve their self-confidence and self-esteem, which contributes to a more ambitious choice of career path, emphasizes Isabelle Duband.
Weekly tutoring for 42 volunteer students
This year, the Cluny campus has 42 students from the Arts et Métiers Grande Ecole Program, tutoring 121 students tutored each week (68 middle school students and 53 high school students). These volunteer engineering students provide weekly tutoring for two hours for high school students and one to one and a half hours for middle school students in the four secondary schools.
Institutions concerned:
- collège Saint-Cyrde Matour in a rural area,
- Saint-Exupéry Middle Schoolin Mâcon, located in a priority neighborhood of the city,
- La Prat’s High School in Cluny,
- Henri Parriat High School in Montceau-les-Mines.
Volunteering is an enriching experience for engineering students, allowing them to develop interpersonal and social skills.
