The national Cordées de la Réussite daystook place on March 9 and April 10, 2019, on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny. This event is part of Cluny's OPTIMequal opportunitiesprogram and is supported bythe Dijon Regional Education Authorityand theGeneral Commission for Territorial Equality. Here's a look back at these two days.

The OPTIM program, led by Isabelle Duband, a materials science teacher at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny, reflects the institution's values of supporting equal opportunities and solidarity.

The aim of these days is to open the minds of young mentees and stimulate their curiosity about science and technology, Isabelle Duband.

Isabelle and her team proposed two highlights for the 10th edition ofthe Cordées de la Réussite national days: on March 9, 2019, with a personalized welcome for students and their parents at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny, and on April 11, 2019, with an immersion day for middle school students in the campus workshops.

March 9: personalized welcome for students and their parents

The Saint-Exupéry (Mâcon) andSaint Cyr(Matour) middle schools, and theLa Prat’s(Cluny) andHenri Parriat(Montceau-les-Mines) high schools are part of the OPTIM program. In concrete terms, 151 secondary school students in the Saône-et-Loire department benefit from weekly tutoring provided by 76 volunteer engineering students.

The students receiving tutoring and their parents were able to take advantage ofthe Open Houseon March 9, 2019, with a personalized welcome in the presence of their tutors and the heads of partner institutions. Building on this success, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny extended the national Cordées de la réussite days with an awareness campaign on science and technology for OPTIM middle school students in Mâcon.

April 11: Immersion in the workshops and expertise of Arts et Métiers engineers

Twenty 9th-grade students from Saint-Exupéry Middle School in Mâcon spent the day in the campus laboratories and workshops, learning about how technological objects are designed and manufactured. Made from a variety of materials, these objects involve several different manufacturing processes.

We managed to observe a piece of software and use it. And above all, we managed to communicate with each other to complete a finished project. A middle school student

Surrounded and accompanied by their engineering student mentors, the middle school students were able to get a hands-on feel for the practical applications of their middle school math and technology classes. They were invited to use CAD (computer-aided design) software and put themselves in the shoes of our engineering students.

The OPTIM success team highlights the social and humanistic commitment of Arts et Métiers.
