The Institut Arts et Métiers Laval and Laval Mayenne Technopole jointly organized the 7th edition of the MayAM (Mayenne Arts et Métiers) Skills Challenge, a program for Arts et Métiers students Arts et Métiers develop innovation in Mayenne-based companies. Here's a look back at the four winners and their award-winning projects.

The 51 students enrolled in the MTI 3D Master's program atthe Institut Arts et Métiers Lavalhad one week to come up with concrete solutions for 10 companies in the Mayenne region (Extha P.P.I., Semeo, VandB concept, Technology Everywhere, Entreprise Monnier, Daniel Moquet Signe Vos Allées, CPIE Mayenne Bas-Maine, Europlastiques, Feljas et Masson, and Crédit Agricole Maine Anjou) on topics related to innovative technologies (virtual reality, augmented reality, connected objects, 3D printing, etc.).

The aim of this competition is to showcase projects that can be directly applied within the company and to bring innovative ideas to the fore, explains Simon Richir, head ofthe Institut Arts et Métiers Laval.

A win-win challenge

After visiting the companies and learning about their innovation needs, the 10 competing teams had five days to come up with three concrete ideas under the watchful eye of their "company" and "school" coaches. On December 5, the students presented their projects to the jury members, who awarded the following prizes:

  • The Creativity Awardwas presented to Kévin FOURNIER, Élisa LECOMTE, Félix MOQUET, Thomas MORIET, Harald SAMSON, and their coach Julien BLANVILLAIN. This project impressed the jury because it allows people who use the machines ofthe participating company,Semeo, to be trained prior to delivery, thanks to a virtual reality training tool (via a headset). The objectives are to facilitate the start-up of the devices and improve safety, which results in reduced training costs for the company.
  • The Grand Jury Prize was awarded to Aristide AUZERAIS, Sébastien DUCHOSSOY, Guillaume LEBLAY, Eric PAIN, Charles PERINET, and their coach Pauline MOQUET for their work for the company Daniel Moquet Signe Vos Allées. The idea is to offer a physical model enhanced by video projection at trade shows. Visitors will be able to interact and discover the different materials and designs offered by the company in augmented reality.
  • This year, the Grand Prix Mayamwas awarded by the Arts et Métiers society to Gwénolé COULOMB-PELFRESNE, Florent DUVAL, Maël LACOUR, Sarah LION, Lucas RIVIERE, and their coach Sébastien RIDÉ, forthe CPIE Mayenne Bas-Maine association . This award recognizes a mobile app project that provides each hiker with a personalized guide. Using NFC technology, this guide will supplement the information provided on marked trail signs, such as awareness campaigns on respecting flora and fauna.

Each year, at the end of the competition, up to 53% of the students' ideas will be turned into real projects in companies!
