Who is Carole Charbuillet?

A graduate of INSA Lyon, Carole Charbuillet holds a Ph.D. fromArts et Métiers , with a dissertation titled “Proposed Tools and Methods for Integrating Plastic Recycling Chains into the Automotive Supply Chain.”
Between 2003 and 2009, as a project manager at AMVALOR, a subsidiary ofArts et Métiers responsible for industrial partnerships, she created ODEFIRE, a dynamic, systems-based model of plastic recycling streams using flow simulation software (Witness), and developed an approach for integrating recycled materials into automotive design as part of the European SAFFIR project in collaboration with the automotive supplier Plastic Omnium.

Between 2010 and 2014, she coordinated a project at AMVALOR commissioned by ADEME, the French Agency for Ecological Transition, focusing on plastic recycling chains and the development of a database. In addition, as a research engineer, she conducted life-cycle analyses of coatings and application processes.

Starting in 2010, Carole Charbuillet joined the staff Arts et Métiers at the Institut Arts et Métiers in Chambéry and helped develop design indicators as a decision-making tool for selecting recycling streams.
She teaches courses on plastics and recycling streams, material selection for eco-design, product circularity, and life cycle assessment as part of both undergraduate and continuing education programs. Notably, from 2019 to 2024, she served as coordinator for Arts et Métiers of the Urban Mines Chair, which was established in 2014.

Since 2020, Carole Charbuillet has been a faculty member and researcher at the Institut Arts et Métiers in Chambéry, where she works on the circularity of strategic materials in complex products and the development of decision-support tools for implementing sustainable circular strategies. She recently earned her qualification to supervise research (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, focusing on the development of tools to guide stakeholders toward more sustainable circularity.
