To kick off their engineering journey with a focus on engagement, first-year students in the Grande École Program took part in an immersive experience at TISSEL. Featuring team challenges, an introduction to the circular economy, and an exploration of a site that symbolizes industrial redevelopment, this activity set the tone for a new academic year focused on the challenges of tomorrow’s world.

An Immersive Start to the School Year Exploring the Circular Economy

As part of their back-to-school week, first-year engineering students in the Grande École Program at the Arts et Métiers campus in Lille participated in an escape game at the TISSEL site in Roubaix, a former textile factory that has been converted into a hub for innovation and initiatives focused on the circular economy.

Understanding the Challenges of Industrial Transitions

This activity was part of the back-to-school theme, “Engineering and Environmental and Societal Challenges.” Through an immersive and collaborative experience, the students learned how the redevelopment of a former industrial site can contribute to the economic revitalization of a region while addressing today’s environmental challenges.

Practical Awareness of the Circular Economy

The escape game helped participants better understand the principles of the circular economy, the fight against overconsumption, and the importance of more sustainable economic models. They also learned about several companies engaged in innovative and responsible initiatives, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Developing the Skills of Tomorrow's Engineers

This experience has contributed to the development of a systemic understanding of socio-environmental issues, an essential skill for future engineers. It is fully aligned with the educational objectives aimed at preparing students for the energy, environmental, and societal changes in the industrial world.

A Moment of Unity for the Class

Beyond the learning experience, this activity fostered group cohesion, team spirit, and collaboration among the students. It was a unique and unifying way to start the school year, allowing the new class to begin its journey with a focus on commitment and responsible innovation.
