On October 6 and 7, engineering students completed their Grand Challenge in 24 hours. This year, in consultation with the Cluny Town Hall, the 206 first-year students provided parking for the town's racecourse and enjoyed their first real-life professional experience.
A first experience of working in a group
The Grand Défi, organized as part of the Tradition Transmission Period, is an opportunity for engineering students to put their training atArts et Métiers to good use. They must combine their technical and managerial skills to ensure the smooth running of the project.
For Yassine Oubelmouh, a first-year student, this experience allowed him to get to know his classmates better and become part of a group. It was a taste of professional life, where, according to him, the secret is learning to listen.
Knowledge put into practice
The Grand Défi is a civic initiative, a project serving the residents of Cluny. The residents helped the students by lending them their tools. The students must complete the challenge without the use of electric or thermal machinery. Using only shovels and pickaxes, Yassine and his classmates completed the earthworks and spread gravel over the future parking spaces in 24 hours.
Other projects await them before they begin their careers as engineers: Le Grand Gala, the Comic Book Festival, and Le Grand Bastringue, a humanitarian reggae concert. These festive events will call upon the skills they have acquired through their involvement in community organizations and their training as general engineers.
