On November 16, Nicolas Candelier, a recent graduate Arts et Métiers, won first prize in Eurovia's challenge for the best final-year projects. The challenge recognizes the expertise and innovative abilities of engineering students completing their final-year internships at Eurovia.
An internship at the Gourdon/Bar limestone quarry
After completing a TSI preparatory program, Nicolas enrolled in the Grande Ecole Engineering ProgrammeArts et Métiers the Châlons-en-Champagne campus. He then transferred to the Bordeaux-Talence campus in his third year to pursuea specialization in “Environmental Process Engineering and Materials for Sustainable Development.” He decided to complete his final-year internship at Eurovia, at the Gourdon/Bar limestone quarry.
I was looking to participate in a project related to sustainable development.
His mission: to develop a process to improve the removal of clay from the limestone quarry, in order to optimize the exploitation of the deposit and reduce the site's ecological footprint!
Although he had no experience in the field of careers, Nicolas was able to use skills acquired at Arts et Métiers, particularly in industrial process management and partner relations.
A project that everyone agrees on
For his work on "Defining a process for treating clayey waste rock and improving product quality in a massive limestone quarry," Nicolas won first prize in the Eurovia Challenge (among 150 internships and final-year projects carried out this year at Eurovia).
The award was presented to him during an online ceremony attended by 140 guests by Robert Bello, Managing Director of Eurovia France, who was full of praise for the quality of Nicolas's work:
I was blown away by his work. For someone who knew nothing about the world of careers, his work is impressive. Well done, Nicolas, for this admirable work.
Laurent Allemand, Nicolas's tutor, also congratulated him on his work and the relevance of his proposals.

What now?
Nicolas has finished working on this project, which has now moved into the implementation phase and is included in Eurovia's 2021 investment plan.
At the end of his internship, Nicolas was hired as a career engineer at EJL (part of the Eurovia group) in Aix-en-Provence.
