Presentation by Stéphane Fontaine
An engineer from the École Nationale SupĂ©rieure des Industries Textiles de Mulhouse, now known as the École Nationale SupĂ©rieure d’IngĂ©nieurs Sud Alsace (ENSISA), StĂ©phane Fontaine began his academic career at the University of Haute-Alsace after earning a doctorate in engineering sciences in the field of tribology with a focus on the study of fibrous surfaces. He then became a university professor at the Institut SupĂ©rieur de l'Automobile et des Transports (ISAT in Nevers), an internal school of the University of Burgundy. After heading the ISAT's DRIVE EA1859 Research Unit for three years, he took over as director of the Arts et MĂ©tiers Paris Campus in Metz in 2017.Â
Stéphane Fontaine's areas of academic expertise relate to the mechanics of flexible and rigid materials and their durability. He teaches advanced processes (such as adhesive bonding), eco-design and life cycle analysis, as well as the mechanics of deformable solids.
Since 2017, alongside his teams at the Arts et Métiers Campus Arts et Métiers Metz, he has been involved in numerous certified projects through various initiatives such as the Regional Skills Pact, the State-Region Plan Contract, France 2030, and Territoires d'Industrie. These projects aim to modernize the campus and its Evolutive Learning Factory with a wide range of industrial equipment and a Learning Center.
The Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Metz perfectly embodies the industry of the future through its digitalization and control of its carbon footprint. Its students are trained using the latest knowledge produced by the campus's two laboratories, namely the Design, Manufacturing and Control Laboratory (LCFC) and the Microstructures, Mechanics and Materials Science Laboratory (LEM3), thanks to modern facilities and an up-to-date environment. This is done in order to support regional and national industry.
