LaBoMaP – the Wood team in the spotlight

On May 6, a team from La Maison France 5 came to film a report for France Bois Forêt. The report focuses on the manufacture of CLT panels made from oak. The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region is home to vast oak forests. The Bois Croisés de Bourgogne association has come up with an innovative product that makes it possible to use oak that is considered to be of secondary quality.

Arts et Métiers a partner of the Bois Croisés de Bourgogne association and enables CLT panels to take shape in the vacuum press. In the early stages of manufacturing, the Boisdu LaBoMaPteamcarriesout a whole series of tests on batches to predict the mechanical performance of the sawn timber. Two testing machines are used: a non-destructive testing machine developed by the Bois team (a laser scanner) and a bending test bench.

With our machines, we can use 80% of secondary-quality oak for structural applications, whereas only 20% would be suitable using visual grading methods.
