For the 9th edition of Industry Week, which will take place from March 18 to 24, Arts et Métiers a series of events to promote its activities and its close ties with businesses in the regions.

Since 2011, Industry Week has been promoting industry and its professions to the general public, particularly young people and job seekers.
In 2018, more than 2,900 events ( job dating, company and facility visits, conferences, workshops, etc.) brought together 360,000 participants, who discovered a different image of industry, a sector that is recruiting, dynamic, and environmentally friendly. In 2019, Industry Week will focus on the French Fab, which promotes French excellence and creativity, as well as the sector's key players, particularly engineers.

The operation therefore represents a great opportunity for Arts et Métiers its role as a socio-economic player serving local communities and businesses. The entire institution is mobilizing to implement initiatives that demonstrate its proximity and strong relationships with the industrial world in the regions.

A barometer focused on territories

The first highlight is the publication of the "Young People and Industry" barometer, which Opinion Way has been producing for Arts et Métiers for the past seven years. This barometer aims to understand and analyze how high school students in science and technology fields perceive industry.
This seventh edition focuses on regions and industry and young people's perceptions of industry according to their region.
The results were unveiled earlier this week in a press release. They show that young people's opinion of industry reached an all-time high in 2019 and has seen the strongest growth across all sectors since last year: 80% of high school students in science or technology streams have a favorable opinion of this sector, an increase of 5 points in one year and 11 points since the barometer began. In addition, the attractiveness of the industrial sector is increasing, particularly among girls, who feel as encouraged, or almost as encouraged, as boys to work in it.
While enthusiasm for industry is shared across the country, regional disparities appear on certain indicators: industry is viewed more favorably in eastern France (northeast: 84% and southeast: 82%), less confidence in the future in the Paris region (61%), although this region has a higher number of people interested in pursuing a career in industry (including a desire to become an engineer), while the southwest places greater value on "Made in France" and has greater fears about offshoring.

Around thirty events focusing on four themes

Industry Week will also be marked in the regions by around thirty events organized by campuses and institutes around four themes:

  • A renowned school offering training courses that anticipate technological needs
The Chambéry institute is organizing a day entitled "Les rencontres de la construction durable" (Sustainable Construction Meetings), while the Lille and Châlons-en-Champagne campuses are opening their doors to the general public to present the Arts et Métiers training courses.
In addition, the Angers campus will offer a different perspective on industry with a conference led by Dimitri Péplé, a student who cycled around France visiting factories and meeting the people who work in industry on a daily basis.
  • A school focused on engineering careers: attractive and innovative professions
In Bordeaux, a "Live my life as an engineer" program is offered to 300 engineering students on campus, who will interact with 60 working professionals. Conferences and after-work events with manufacturers (Procter & Gamble, Vinci Énergies, LeBronze Alloys, etc.) will be organized on campuses or in high schools in Lille, Metz, and Châlons to raise awareness of careers in industry.
At the same time, the school will be a partner of the Smile fair, which will be held from March 22 to 31 at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (Paris 19th arrondissement), with student guides and alumni presenting their professions.
Organized by the GIM (Groupe des Industries Métallurgiques) and the UIMM La Fabrique de l'Avenir (Union des industries et métiers de la métallurgie), this trade show will enable thousands of middle school, high school, and college students, accompanied by their teachers, to discover and understand 11 major professions in the industry: research and design, industrialization methods, production management, supply chain, robotics, and machining.

  • A school immersed in the industry of the future, a responsible and connected industry
With conferences on innovation management and virtual and augmented reality techniques in Bordeaux, participation in the Laval Virtual Center exhibition organized by the Laval Institute, and a photo exhibition on the house of tomorrow with Schneider in Paris, Arts et Métiers with all these events that it is the institution of the industry of the future, with a focus on ethics!
Indeed, social issues are not forgotten, with conferences on corporate environmental responsibility in Cluny, the participation of students from Chambéry in an initiative to benefit a humanitarian association, and the screening of the film Toujours debout (Still Standing) in Châlons on technology and disability.

  • A school tailored to support the entrepreneurs of tomorrow
The Aix-en-Provence campus has chosen to highlight innovation and entrepreneurship by presenting the testimony of the company T2M, a start-up (spin-off) from the campus, the inter-university incubator Impulse, theArts et Métiers spin-offArts et Métiers Valor, and the investment structure Pertinence Invest.
