Fabien Viprey and Lamice Denguir received the First Prize for Thesis and the Scientific Prize, respectively, on June 7 during the gala dinner of the MUGV 2018 at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux.

Fabien Viprey is a member of LaBoMaP, and Lamice Denguir completed a MAGISMaster of Science and a Ph.D. in the same laboratory.

For the first time this year the AUTGV (Association for Very High Speed Machining) and Manufacturing 21 (a group of academic research laboratories) awarded three thesis prizes. These prizes are intended to reward three young doctors who defended their theses between January 2015 and December 2017 and who participated in the Manufacturing 21 conference.

Fabien completed his thesis at the LURPA at ENS Paris-Saclay and LNE-Paris : Modeling and characterization of structural defects in 5-axis machine tools for in-process measurement. Lamice completed his thesis at LaBoMaP and CEA Valduc: Characterization and modeling of the mechanical and microstructural state of sublayers affected by the finishing machining of Cu-c2 copper and impact on corrosion resistance.

The third prize (industrial prize) was awarded to Pierre-André Rey for his thesis completed at INSA Toulouse and Airbus: Characterization and optimization of orbital drilling of Ti6Al4V and CFRP/Ti6Al4V stacks.

Portrait of Fabien Viprey

Originally from Besançon (25), he enrolled at Cachan (ENS Paris-Saclay) in 2009. After earning his external agrégation in mechanical engineering in 2012, he turned to teaching and research and pursued a Master of Science at Cachan and UPMC in digital product and process engineering (specialized). He then defended his thesis at ENS Paris-Saclay on November 18, 2016. His work was conducted in collaboration with the LURPA and the National Metrology and Testing Laboratory (Paris 15th) on a European project titled “ European Metrology Research Programme – IND62 TIM Traceable In-process Dimensional Measurement .” The ultimate goal of this project is to make a machine tool a measuring instrument and ensure the traceability of measurements within it. His objective in this project is to understand the geometric behavior of a machine tool in a quasi-static state during in-process measurement, addressing the challenges this poses in laboratory or workshop environments, as well as sources of measurement disturbances. He followed this with an 8-month postdoc in the field of additive manufacturing as part of the SOFIA , focusing on robot metrology and ensuring robot accuracy during additive manufacturing trajectories. At the same time, he earned his Associate Professor qualification and joined the UGV team at LaBoMaP in September 2017. In September 2018, he will take over as director of the FabLab on the Cluny Campus.
