Anne Baud, archaeologist and lecturer at Lyon 2 University, and Vincent Borrel, PhD student in history responsible for the numismatic study of the treasure, will give a lecture on Thursday, March 15 at 8 p.m. on the recent treasure unearthed by the team of archaeologists fromthe archaeology and archaeometry laboratory.

For the past three years, planned excavations at Cluny Abbey have focused on the former monastic infirmary, which was destroyed during the reconstruction of the convent buildings in the 18th century. This archaeological work follows on from operations carried out on the chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which welcomed sick brothers for services. The monastic infirmary was a "small monastery" within the abbey, comprising a dormitory, refectory, cloister, kitchen, latrines, etc. The 2017 excavations uncovered a 14th-century kitchen or apothecary. In addition, a verification survey carried out opposite the excavation site uncovered a valuable treasure dating from the 12th century. It includes 2,200 Cluniac deniers, 21 Arab dinars, a small gold ingot, and a magnificent signet ring. This is the first treasure ever found in a Cluniac monastery.

TheCluny International Conference Center and the Arts et Métiers campus are offering a series of conferences, which will conclude in 2017/2018 with those organized as part ofIndustry Week.
