From June 28 to September 17, 2017, the city of Metz is organizing a unique cultural season that will allow the public to enjoy 400 artistic events.

The public was familiar with the sound and light shows at the cathedrals in Strasbourg, Reims, and Place Stanislas in Nancy. This year, Metz is competing with these three cities in eastern France thanks to Constellations, a summer festival with a new program whose highlight will undoubtedly be an architectural video mapping show projected onto Saint-Étienne Cathedral every evening.

Reaching for the stars

To promote this ambitious project, the organizers wanted to create a strong visual identity based on the theme of constellations and space.

The City of Metz has made culture a priority in its municipal policy as a vehicle for social cohesion, image, and attractiveness, and as a laboratory for artistic creation and innovation.

The organizers of Constellations sought out the technical and specialized skillsArts et Métiers the engineering studentsArts et Métiers .

A challenge for students

The request made by the organizers was to build a LEM (Lunar Excursion Module) type space module to recreate a moon landing with an astronaut planting a flag on the lunar landscape (at a scale of approximately 70%).

Four student volunteers (Louise Contant, Achim Kupferschmitt, Nicolas Lamouche, Nathan Perrin) had one weekend to complete this project.

One of the students improvised as a model for a day and donned an astronaut suit. The set was created using recycled materials and a few sandbags.
The photos from the shoot will be used to create the event poster, video teasers, brochure, etc.
