Designed by Arts et Métiers Clarté, CAPLAB, the new platform installed at the Laval Virtual Center, was inaugurated on September 12. With the aim of capturing and analyzing human activity—gestures, movements, sounds, emotions—in order to preserve expertise, optimize training, and support the industry of the future, this project was made possible thanks to the support of the Pays de la Loire Region, Laval Agglomération, and the ERDF.
A tool for research, teaching, and innovation
CAPLAB is aimed at a wide audience: students, researchers, companies, and stakeholders in industry, education, and healthcare. Students in the TEEF and MTI3D Master's programs find it a unique testing ground for developing immersive educational content. Researchers and manufacturers use it to analyze performance, preserve rare skills, and pass on expertise.
Concrete and complementary uses
The platform is structured around two areas: the archiving of professional skills, led by Clarté, and research into the human factor in industry, training, and health, led by Arts et Métiers. These complementary approaches make expertise accessible, transferable, and usable by both operators and automated systems.

State-of-the-art equipment for research and innovation
The platform brings together the latest technologies: volumetric capture, optical and inertial motion tracking, eye tracking, physiological analysis, and even brainwave recording.
Several projects are already underway, such as CAPINDUS (part of the RECLASSIF project), which develops interactive educational scenarios based on captured data for industrialists.
A forward-looking ecosystem
By offering access to cutting-edge technologies, CAPLAB has become a strategic asset for research and innovation. With this unique facility in Europe, Laval has confirmed its pioneering role in immersive technologies and the alliance between research, teaching, and innovation, which is the very DNAArts et Métiers.
The platform will be accessible to laboratories and companies. For more information, contact Simon Richir, Institut Arts et Métiers Laval, Laval Virtual Center, Rue Marie Curie, 53810, Changé.
A look back at the inauguration of the experimental platform
The platform was officially inaugurated at the Laval Institute, in the presence of Florian Bercault, Mayor of Laval and President of Laval Agglomération, Samia Soultani Vigneron, Vice-President of the Pays de la Loire Region, and Olivier Richefou, President of the Mayenne Departmental Council.
The program included a presentation of the system and its purpose by representatives of the operators, a tour of the 4D video capture studio, and demonstrations of the equipment.
