AMJE regularly supports entrepreneurs in developing their projects. What support does this group, which differs from large corporations, offer? How do AMJE members benefit from this? Are there any similarities between AMJE and startups? Thibault Martel, president of AMJE Paris, and Margot Brumaire, communications manager for AMJE Paris's 2020-2021 term, provide some answers!
Support tailored to the needs of entrepreneurs
AMJE supports all types of businesses: SMEs and large corporations, as well as entrepreneurs. The latter account for 15% of AMJE Paris's revenue.
However, their needs are different: large groups tend to focus more on improving performance, whereas most of the services offered to entrepreneurs are designed to support them in creating and developing their businesses. AMJEs carry out design, prototyping, market analysis, benchmarking, and feasibility studies.
AMJE members and all Arts et Métiers students Arts et Métiers training that provides them with advanced engineering skills and comprehensive professional and sector-specific knowledge. It is precisely this dual expertise and proximity to French industry players that enables AMJE to respond precisely to the needs of entrepreneurs.
Arts et Métiers the school for industry, and AMJE aims to be the junior branch of industry. (Thibault)
AMJE Paris supported a project to create roller skates with detachable boots. Following this assignment, the consultant involved in the project joined forces with others to create and develop the start-up!
AMJE Lille supported an entrepreneur with a commercial background who had the idea of producing an innovative hand dryer. The participants worked with the client to draw up a detailed set of specifications. Then, following feasibility studies and technical benchmarks, they developed two prototypes so that the client could present a concrete project to investors.

Supporting entrepreneurs: a rewarding experience both professionally and personally
For Thibault and Margot, working with entrepreneurs means discovering and learning from their experiences, which makes these assignments very rewarding. This sometimes inspires AMJE members!
Supporting entrepreneurs inspires others to follow suit. (Margot)
For AMJE members, it is also an opportunity to participate in the creation of an innovative and disruptive project, to be creative and proactive:
"Supporting people who have a project means supporting passionate individuals. Entrepreneurs want to bring something new to the market, make people's lives easier, and add value. As engineering students, we really want to ask ourselves, 'How can I make a difference with my skills?'. That's exactly what our missions for entrepreneurs offer us. We want to be a driving force for entrepreneurship and innovation in France." (Thibault)
AMJEs: startups that support startups and train potential future entrepreneurs !
Following their experience as junior entrepreneurs, some AMJE members are considering setting up their own start-up and launching their own project. (Margot)
AMJE members are Junior Entrepreneurs who gain real entrepreneurial experience during their time with the organization. They are part of France's leading student movement, which brings together 200 organizations and 25,000 students, with commercial activity worth €10 million in 2020. The way a Junior Enterprise, and therefore an AMJE, operates is similar to that of a real company, as Thibault explains very well:
Developing an AMJE is like developing your own business. Our activity is governed by numerous laws and regulations that frame our operations. We are audited every year to guarantee performance and sustainability within our structure. We report on our activities to bodies such as URSAAF. We are also constantly seeking to develop and sustain our commercial activity and our market positioning. This involves working on our brand image, creating partnerships that can support our development, building our commercial offering, managing and uniting our team, and so on. These are the same issues that entrepreneurs face!
Developing an AMJE is like developing your own business.
