The challenge of open science for Arts et Métiers
Arts et Métiers a strong commitment to participating in the open access movementArts et Métiers very early on. In 2013, the institution launched the Science Arts et Métiers SAM) open archive to host the publications of its researchers and doctoral students.
The deposit, made mandatory by the General Directorate, provides visibility for the research produced within the institution. It also ensures that researchers' work receives greater visibility.
And it has been a success , with nearly 4,500 publications submitted to date, 1.2 million views since the first articles were posted online, and currently around 40,000 views per month from around the world.
Libraries that spearheaded the initiative
The Arts et Métiers libraries were behind this initiative, having been involved in the creation of the open archive. They also contribute to the development of the tool, validate the metadata entered by researchers, verify publishers' embargo policies (some publications are only visible after a certain period of time), raise awareness of open science, and support their users, who are authors of scientific publications. In particular, they support researchers in drafting research data management plans for European projects, which are now mandatory. Finally, they participate in the editorial board of an open access journal, free for authors and readers, hosted on the University of Bordeaux's scientific journal platform: International Journal of Virtual Reality.
As such, they are involved every year in organizing events as part of Open Access Week on the Arts et Métiers campuses.
