Arts et Métiers signed the Jussieu Appeal, drafted by a French collective representing researchers and professionals in scientific publishing. It is addressed to scientific communities and research institutions with a view to promoting open access to scientific publications.

Its goal: to develop and implement alternative models adapted to the objectives of open science, affirming the need to support innovation for a profound overhaul of editorial functions. The collective is therefore calling for the creation of an international consortium of stakeholders to bring together initiatives. It is also addressing research institutions and their libraries, urging them to set aside part of their acquisition budgets now to support the development of truly open and innovative scientific publishing.

An appeal broken down into eight points

  • support for diversity among scientific publishing stakeholders: bibliodiversity,
  • development of innovative models for scientific publishing,
  • experimentation with writing practices, expert review procedures, editorial services for content, and additional services
  • reform of research evaluation systems,
  • multiplication and coordination of investments in the development of open source tools,
  • stability and security of the legal framework in different countries,
  • access to national and international infrastructure that guarantees the preservation and circulation of knowledge against any privatization of content,
  • Priority should be given to economic models of publication that do not involve payment by authors to publish or by readers to access texts.

Scientific communities, research institutions, and associations of scientific and technical information professionals are invited to sign the Jussieu Appeal.

To date, there are more than 50 signatory organizations.
