GaSole returns to Senegal for a solidarity project
News

In partnership with theNGO MOACOSI (Miss Oumy à cœur ouvert solidarité internationale), Valentin Hurel, a second-year engineering student and president of the association GaSole association at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne, and his team are preparing a solidarity project in the village of Mbouloum in Senegal.

In 2017, GaSole and MOACOSI had already worked on renovating a primary school in the Senegalese village of Diamniadio. Since its creation in 2012, the NGO MAOCOSI has carried out numerous projects in the fields of health, education, and social action.

This year, GaSole and MOACOSI will spend two months in Mbouloum renovating a middle school so that 205 students can study in safe classrooms.

"The school has no walls, administrative block, library, or even separate restrooms for girls and boys. The lack of fencing exposes students to dangers such as intruders and reptiles," adds Valentin.

GaSole's mission will focus on two major actions:

  • The construction of 10 classrooms and a perimeter wall;
  • Teaching French to the women of the village.

For Oumou Diasse, president of the MOACOSI , "The ultimate goal of our project is to provide all the inhabitants of Mbouloum with the tools they need to build a better and sustainable economic and social future." In the longer term, the NGO wants to build a computer room, a library, an administrative block, toilets, and a canteen for the village's inhabitants.

According to Valentin, being an Arts et Métiers engineering student has enabled Arts et Métiers to acquire the skills needed to manage a project of this scale. "The extensive Gadzarts network also gives us the opportunity to raise the funds needed for this mission,"says the student.
