An update on the progress made within the framework of JENII and the next steps in the project.

The JENII (Immersive and Interactive Digital Teaching Twins) project, led by Arts et Métiers developed with the CEA, CNAM, and CESI, aims to train the engineers of tomorrow by integrating digital twins and immersive virtual environments into their courses.

Integrate educational scenarios

According to Sébastien Fernandez, project manager, the integration of educational scenarios will mark a turning point for JENII. They will accompany each stage of learning with specific guidelines, offering an experience that is both autonomous and interactive.  "This crucial point is currently under development. We have digital twins that reproduce various platforms and phenomena, but we are lacking educational scenarios. The team is currently working on this," he says.

Present the latest version of the white paper

The new version of this book, which will be published in the fall, is an essential part of this stage. Drawing on experiments conducted since November 2021, this book will analyze the use of digital twins in real-world practical work tested with a real student audience. "The educational experiments will be analyzed in depth and will enrich the new version, which will bring together the results of the experiments conducted in the first half of 2024," says Sébastien Fernandez.

Ensuring the sustainability of the work

The project team is working on another challenge: ensuring the sustainability of its work. To achieve this, a team led by Lionel Roucoules (Aix-en-Provence campus) is working with companies specializing in digital education to exploit and commercialize this work. "This approach could provide us with sources of revenue to invest in the maintenance and development of digital twins," explains Sébastien Fernandez.

Raise awareness of virtual reality among all school staff

JENII also offers a new teaching method for teachers. This acculturation can be extended to all school staff through awareness-raising about virtual reality. "It's useful and interesting in the overall dynamics of the school, so that everyone understands the project and demystifies the use of digital twins for training," explains Sébastien Fernandez.
This ambition to acculturate all school staff in the use of virtual reality will enhance the visibility of the project. In this regard, Sébastien Fernandez praises the communication work. "We have succeeded in developing various formats: videos, portraits, webinars, etc. We hope that other ELF-related projects will follow the same dynamic," he concludes.

Upcoming events:

  • Fall 2024: new version of the white paper "Teaching with Digital Twins" (see the latest version);
  • November 2024: third general meeting.
