Arts et Métiers engineering students Arts et Métiers part in a humanitarian mission in Nepal this summer with the GadzHumanitaire association, giving them the opportunity to acquire new skills and broaden their horizons.
It was a summer of solidarity for around twenty engineering students from the campus who traveled to Nepal with Gadz Humanitaire, an association run by first-year students. After months of preparation and fundraising, the new school in the village of Tokarpur was just waiting for them to get started. The future engineers worked for three weeks on the construction site, and far from any tourist infrastructure, they were able to adapt to their environment, ensuring a complete change of scenery.
They were able to embody the values that are dear to them: brotherhood, cohesion, and open-mindedness, but also the development of professional skills. Sébastien Dufeu, a member of the organizing team, says: "It was an incredible experience for me, both in terms of the project itself and culturally. I decided to stay for eight weeks to discover a completely different way of life and lifestyle, and despite the language barrier, we managed to understand each other. Nepal is a great country which, despite the earthquake, still has a lot to offer to those who take the trouble to visit it."
Mission accomplished for the Gadz'arts: two classrooms will open for the start of the next school year. However, other infrastructure still needs to be built to improve the daily lives of the village's 3,000 inhabitants, so the call is out to first-year students!
