Adel Farouil, Energy Engineering engineer, class of 2014.

Adel's primary goalwas to quickly enter the workforce after earning his science diploma with flying colors. After completing a technical degree in home automation, he went on to earn a professional degree in energy physics. These courses gave him a taste for further study: "I wanted to go further, to learn even more, and I was always able to count on the support of my teachers. I chose to enroll at Arts et Métiers offered the course that best suited my career plans: training as an engineer specializing in energy engineering."

Adel FarouilDeveloping critical thinking skills

Over the course of three years, Adel had a powerful experience, both academically and personally: "The engineering program at Arts et Métiers profoundly. Most of the teachers are genuinely committed to imparting as much knowledge as possible to us so that we are equipped to meet the challenges of the professional world. My engineering training, specializing in energy engineering, has given me a better understanding of French and global energy issues in the short and medium term. I have been able to develop a critical eye when it comes to the vast amount of information circulating in the media and on social networks; I now have the means to verify it using computational methods or, at the very least, to know where to find the right information. I greatly appreciated the many scientific, social, and political debates I had with my classmates on all these topics, and I am proud to see that many of us young engineers are interested and ready to play an active role in transforming the world of tomorrow.

What I take away from these three years of training is an unparalleled human experience.

Decoding the professional world through apprenticeships

According to Adel, apprenticeship training has many advantages: continuing your studies while being financially independent, discovering the company and its codes, and also building a professional network: "I was able to exchange ideas with many experts, participate in the management of very interesting projects, develop professional relationships, etc." For example, the engineering student acted as moderator fora conference on the industry of the future and was able to talk with industry experts such as Philippe Darmayan, president of the Alliance Industrie du Futur.

Becoming responsible through student life

Adel took on the role of president of the Arts et Métiers Paris apprentice engineers' association. With his team, he organized and coordinated conferences, student and professional events, and more. It was a valuable learning experience, which also involved management issues related to team leadership: "I was able to organize my team and assign tasks, negotiate contracts and manage a budget, ensure that projects ran smoothly from conception to completion, handle legal issues, manage relations with external entities/associations, and participate in the development of the institution through the Board of Directors."

Getting involved in student life is an experience not to be missed during your studies. It's the best way to take on responsibilities in your young adult life!

Defining your professional future

Soon to graduate, and with his apprenticeship experience under his belt, Adel would like to continue working at EDF as a project manager, a role he discovered at EDF's Transport Systems Engineering Center. "The advantage for the employer is hiring a motivated young person who already has two years of experience in this position."
