At the Arts et Métiers the Energy Transition (CAMTE) ceremonyorganized by the Student Union’s Events Committee, a team of students from the Grande Ecole Engineering Programme at the Bordeaux-Talence campusreceived a special mention for their project "Hydrogen: A Breath of Decarbonization "

Special mention from the jury: Hydrogen, a breath of fresh air for decarbonization

Louis Fourcade, Thomas Chapou, Raphaël Lopez, and Mayeul de Lacoste Lareymondie won the Jury's Special Mention for proposing a technical solution based on hydrogen.

This project supplies the campus workshop with clean, carbon-free hydrolysis energy. So impressive that it convinced the jury to create a special prize, the project by four PGE 2 studentsyear at the Bordeaux-Talence campus is now focused on building a hydrogen-powered generator, with a prototype to be completed by the end of the school year.

"These generators will be small units that can be used in mobile vehicles (food trucks, RVs, boats, etc.),"explains Louis Fourcade, who hopes to develop this project during his year of specialization in entrepreneurship, carried out within the school's CREDA program. A chemical reaction is generated between powdered metal and water in a reactor. The resulting oxidation produces hydrogen, which is then converted into electricity using a fuel cell.

Hailed as the energy source of the future, hydrogen faces technological hurdles and has many areas of application that need to be explored.
