First-year engineering students at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers volunteered their time on September 16 and 17 for the city of Angers. On the agenda: 10 projects were identified, ranging from renovating elementary schools to cleaning up the city, keeping the students busy.

"Being an engineer atArts et Métiers alsoArts et Métiers being a citizen and taking action for your city," says Béchir Massri, Vice President, External Relations Officer of the Student Association. As part of their orientation weekend, the 163 first-year engineering students rallied together on September 16 and 17 to support the cityof Angers.

Challenges and objectives of the action

This is the second time that first-year students have implemented this unifying project entitled "Le Grand Défi Arts et Métiers " (The Great Angers Arts and Crafts Challenge), in collaboration with the Angers City Council. The goal is to carry out volunteer work for the public good. This event, which is part of the school's "Values Transmission Period," is an opportunity for second-year students to pass on the values of solidarity and fraternity that are dear to them to first-year students.

Above all, it is a human adventure that allows students to get to know each other and share values through a joint initiative.

"Since they only met for the first time a few days ago, this is also an opportunity for them to get to know each other while serving the community," continues Béchir Massri.

This year, the goal was to beautify and restore primary schools in Angers and clean up the fountain in Place du Ralliement. This is proof of the good relations established between the school and the cityof Angers. In addition, on October 7 and 8, students from the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers traveled to Mayenne.
