Sunday, October 7, 2018 will see the 19th edition of the Rando Raid de la Loire Arts et Métiers. This sporting event is organized thanks to volunteers from the DAVID association. Alongside them, 200 students from the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers will be involved in organizing this day of sport, celebration, and solidarity. As a talent accelerator for the industry of the future, Arts et Métiers to training engineers with strong human values who are best equipped to meet the human, social, and technological challenges of the industry of the future.

What is the Rando Raid de la Loire?

Organized by the DAVID association (Développement d’Actions Visibles et d’Initiatives Dédiées aux SED), the Rando Raid de la Loire Arts et Métiers is not just a 10 km run, 6 km canoe race, and 23 km mountain bike race that brings together more than 500 competitors—it's much more than that! The Rando Raid de la Loire also involves the mobilization of a large number of players, foremost among them the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers , to raise funds for research. And, as Dr. Claire Guerrier points out,

It is thanks to the students in particular that this race takes place; without them, it would not be possible! 

Unwavering mobilization of Arts et Métiers students

200 first- and second-year students get involved the day before the race and on race day itself, managing parking, food stands, launching and retrieving the 180 canoes, etc., in a spirit of solidarity and camaraderie. "Organizing this race is a concrete action that complements the training acquired at school. This event is a real experience for our young people, a unique moment of sharing around a powerful cause, which is medical research," says Jean Quessada, director of the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers .

An initiative to promote research into Ehlers-Danlos syndromes

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a rare genetic disorder that affects collagen, the main component of connective tissue found in many tissues such as the skin, joints, and blood vessel walls. Between 10,000 and 50,000 people in France are affected by this condition. The main clinical signs include hypermobility and joint fragility, hyperelasticity and skin fragility, and life-threatening vascular fragility. Diagnostic errors are common. TheRando Raid de la Loire Arts et Métiers event raises funds that are donated in full to research into this disease, particularly at the European Georges Pompidou Hospital's rare vascular disease research center, as EDS does not receive any public funding.
