Thanks to funding from local authorities, the 1G4.0 project, led by the Metz and Châlons-en-Champagne campuses, is enabling local businesses' needs to be met.

A project initiated by the Grand Est region

1G4.0 is a consortium of four engineering schools in the Grand Est region: Arts et Métiers and its two campuses in the Grand Est region),École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Metz,INSA Strasbourg, and TELECOM Nancy, working together on a joint project to support regional businesses in their transition to the industry of the future. It is structured around four services.

The project came about with the call for projects " Pacte des Grandes Écoles 2017-2019 " launched by the Grand Est region with a total budget of €6 million. For Stéphane Fontaine, director of the Metz campus and internal initiator of the project, the aim was to " leverage the funding offered by local authorities to develop the campus's activities, in line with the institution's strategy."

Since its launch, the project has also received support fromthe Eurodépartement de la Moselle and Metz Métropole.

Services offered as part of 1G4.0

There is a single point of entry for companies: the 1G4.0 project manager. The latter mobilizes the expertise of one or more partner schools to fully meet the needs expressed by companies.

Four services are offered:

  • Decision-makers' days. Focusing on a specific theme, the aim of these days is to give decision-makers the keys they need to judge whether it is appropriate to integrate 4.0 technology into their company. Four days are scheduled for 2020.
  • Tailor-made continuing education;
  • Recruiting students for internships, work-study programs, or their first job;
  • Days spent assessing companies to carry out a diagnosis and propose an action plan enabling them to integrate Industry 4.0 tools.

Investments on campus

Thanks to various sources of funding, 1G4.0 is enabling investment in new equipment. The additive manufacturing workshop is currently being refurbished on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Metz, with the purchase of at least three new 3D printers. The machines will also be used for teaching and research at the institution.
