Clément Nief, a third-year engineering student, is currently an apprentice at the PSA factory in Sochaux. Naturally dynamic and committed, Clément is also vice-president ofthe National Union ofArts et Métiers ApprenticesArts et Métiers UNAAM).
After completing an ATS (Adaptation Technicien Supérieur) preparatory class, Clément enrolled in aspecialized engineering program at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne. "Apprenticeships are a model that suits me perfectly, I like to be hands-on," he explains. In fact, this apprentice has nowbeen working for PSA for three years. His work mainly involves carrying out simulations and physical tests on air conditioning units at the Sochaux plant.
"I want to work and take action for my education."
Although most of his time is divided between classes and work, Clément still volunteered to take on the role of vice president of the Union Nationale des ApprentisArts et Métiers UNAAM). A former member of the Association of Apprentice Engineers ofArts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne (AIAAM), Clément wanted to continue to energize student life for apprentices, but this time at the national level. " During my time at the AIAAM, I was able to work with students from other campuses on organizing events such as WENSAM, a sports weekend bringing together more than 200 apprentices from all campuses." With this experience under his belt, Clément wanted to continue this momentum by joining the UNAAM board.
"With the current board, our aim is to structure this association."
According to the student, it is necessary to bring together current students and graduates of the specialized engineering program: "The quality of our education also depends on our ability to create professional opportunities. A structured network of specialized engineering alumni is therefore essential." As vice president, one of Clément's missions is to create a directory of former students. To do this, he has to manage a team of six specialized engineering students spread across each campus. "Because of the distance between the campuses, it's not easy to organize face-to-face meetings. However, thanks to software such as Skype, we can communicate almost every day," confirms the apprentice.
For Clément, this management experience is very rewarding: "I have the opportunity to manage a team of several people from different campuses. This means finding common solutions based on the diversity of everyone's points of view and interests."
After a solid education Arts et Métiers, extensive professional experience rich at PSA, and a managerial position as vice president at UNAAM, the engineering student would like to go abroad, specifically to an English-speakingcountry , in order to develop his language skills.
