Bénédicte Hayne shares her experience as a teacher during ATHENS week, which promotes exchanges between engineering students from the ParisTech network and 14 European technology universities.

During a week-long immersion program at Arts et Métiers, engineering students have the opportunity to take intensive courses in building acoustics with Bénédicte Hayne. "Most of the students who participate in the exchange program have never taken a course in acoustics," explains Bénédicte.

Building acoustics, an added value within the ATHENS program

“Acoustics is not a subject that is widely taught, yet we are constantly surrounded by it. The figures relating to noise pollution speak for themselves, but companies are taking action too late, because acoustics is not taken into account from the outset.”

This course, developed in collaboration withESTP Paris and CHEC, is complemented by a demonstration of acoustic equipment and practical work. "Two external specialists come to share their field experience with the students," explains Bénédicte.

At the end of the week, "there is at least one student per session who is highly motivated to continue studying acoustics."

Unique moments of exchange

The dynamic quickly takes shape to form a lively and interesting group that supports each other.

"What I really like is the bond that can form between students who don't know each other at the beginning of the week."

Sharing and passing on knowledge have been Bénédicte's motivation for the past 10 years that she has been teaching during this week of technological and cultural exchanges.

An exciting and rewarding challenge, "with a group of students from different cultures, where perceptions can differ and learning styles vary."

Learn more about ATHENS: Seven days of science and culture twice a year, usually during the third week of November and March. Approximately 4,000 students participate in the program each year.
At the end of the week, students take a test that is equivalent to three ECTS credits at their home institution. https://studywithus.paristech.fr/fr/le-diplome-dingenieur/athens

ATHENS is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a photo contest is being organized on the theme "The best memory of your ATHENS week" #Athens20years.
