The Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence has positioned itself as a true incubator for innovation by welcoming promising startups in the industrial sector. Among them, Handddle and Perception Manufacturing perfectly illustrate the dynamism of this ecosystem, with the advantages offered to entrepreneurs who choose to set up there and the opportunities for engineering students on campus.

Handddle revolutionizes additive manufacturing

Founded in 2020, Handddle is the result of the expertise and complementary skills of Thomas Bourgoin, a mechanical engineer with a passion for additive manufacturing, Pierre Marigo, an expert in IT and machine learning, and Dylan Taleb, a specialist in project management and business development. Drawing on their respective experiences, they have combined their skills to offer an innovative solution dedicated to industrial 3D printing.

By combining controlled production environments, intelligent software, and centralized machine management, the startup guarantees companies repeatable, secure production that complies with industry standards around the world.

"Our ambition is to support companies in their transition to industrial 3D printing by removing technical and organizational barriers," explains Thomas Bourgoin, CEO of Handddle.

Their "Smart Farm," a modular and connected micro-factory , offers an optimized production environment to ensure the quality and traceability of parts printed using additive manufacturing. "Thanks to our infrastructure, our customers can produce with confidence, controlling every parameter of their manufacturing process," explains Pierre Marigo, Technical Director at Handddle.

With more than 40 Smart Farms deployed and over 200,000 parts produced, the startup based on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence has established itself as a key player in additive manufacturing. Its location gives it access to cutting-edge infrastructure, including Evolutive Learning Factory school'sEvolutive Learning Factory ELF). This educational platform offers fully digitized production lines, coupled with digital twins and scalable equipment that meet the challenges of Industry 5.0. A network of more than 700 engineering students, combined with the strong technical skills of the staff, also enables these solutions to be developed and tested in real-world conditions.

"Access to a workshop equipped like a real factory gives us the opportunity to prototype, test, and refine our solutions before their industrial deployment," emphasizes Dylan Taleb, Director of Operations at Handddle.

Perception Manufacturing: AI at the service of production

The start-up Perception Manufacturing, developed by the same team of entrepreneurs, offers an innovative solution that uses cutting-edge technologies such as computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to understand factory operations in real time, thereby supporting daily actions and processes in order to avoid errors and safeguard acquired skills, a highly topical issue among French and international manufacturers.

"We wanted to design an intelligent assistant that preserves and transmits the expertise of teams, but also improves their accuracy and autonomy in the field," explains Dylan Taleb, co-founder of Perception Manufacturing.

The young company offers a system capable of standardizing best practices, capitalizing on operators' skills, and automating certain repetitive tasks in order to improve the efficiency of production lines. "We help manufacturers reduce errors while facilitating the upskilling of new staff," explains one of the 10 team members.

Its multimodal approach can be adapted to various sectors such as aeronautics, luxury goods, automotive, and energy. This innovative technology earned Perception Manufacturing the LVMH Innovation Award 2024, a prestigious recognition that confirms its potential and impact in the industrial sector. The founding team was also honored with a distinction, being recognized in the Forbes 30 under 30 ranking in the category - Leaders in Manufacturing & Industry Europe - in 2023.

Thanks to this stimulating environment, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence confirms its role as a key player in supporting industrial startups. All security measures at the Arts et Métiers site, including secure access, surveillance services, and strict management of main access points, reinforce the ISMS (Information Security Management System) policy of the startups hosted there. This security is an essential asset in their collaborations with major industrial players, guaranteeing the protection of the data collected.

In addition, the campus is immersed in a dynamic technological ecosystem, benefiting from a pool of talent and an environment conducive to exchange. Regular events and visits dedicated to Industry 5.0 promote the visibility of companies and increase opportunities for collaboration with key players in local industry. It offers young companies a framework conducive to innovation and growth, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of the region.
