MFFA Course - Fluid Mechanics Fundamentals and Applications

Fluid Mechanics Fundamentals and Applications (MFFA)

National Master's Degree (DNM) in Fluid Mechanics Fundamentals and Applications (MFFA)

In this master's program, students are trained in fundamental and applied research activities in the field of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. These topics can now be explored thanks to advances in computing that enable industrial research to tackle the major technological challenges posed by improving energy performance and reducing pollution.

Training schedule

This training program lasts two years.

Master's 1

Training offered on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Paris through the "Factory of the Future - Energy" program.

Master's degree

This program is offered in collaboration with Sorbonne University. Classes are divided equally between Sorbonne University and the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Paris.

The program includes one semester of classes from September to February, with the second semester devoted to a 20-week internship. These internships are carried out in France and abroad in universities, laboratories, industrial companies (Safran, Airbus, SNCF, ESA, etc.), and research organizations (ONERA, CEA, etc.).

Educational objectives

  • Acquire expertise in numerical simulation and analysis of complex and turbulent flows.
  • Master physical models and associated numerical simulation methods.
  • Know how to apply acquired knowledge to industrial problems, particularly in the field of aeronautical or land transport, where reducing energy consumption and noise pollution are important issues.

Program

1re period (September to November), 5 compulsory course units

2e period (from December to February), 5 ECTS credits from the following 7

Assessment, validation, and teaching methods

Course materials and assignment sheets are available to students. Assessment is based on continuous evaluation, practical work, and final exams for each term.

To validate the master's degree, the average grade for each course unit must be greater than or equal to 7/20. In addition, the average grade for first-semester courses must be greater than or equal to 10/20. Finally, the research internship grade must be greater than or equal to 10/20.
