Arts et Métiers the CAIRE project, which aims to develop training courses on the new challenges of AI and the transformations that this technology is bringing to the world of work.
At a time when artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly widespread, it is more important than ever to provide citizens with large-scale training in its use. "The digital revolution is accelerating, and with it, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a transformative force in all aspects of our society," says Xavier Kestelyn, scientific director of the project for Arts et Métiers. With CAIRE (Citizen-oriented Artificial Intelligence training for a Responsible Education), we are determined to shape the future of training and innovation by investing in AI training."
The five-year CAIRE project was submitted in 2022 as part of the 2021-2025 Skills and Jobs of the Future call for expressions of interest issued by the ANR.
Three levels of training
Five higher education institutions are partners in this project, which is being led by Arts et Métiers see below). Its aim is to create short, modular, MOOC-style hybrid training courses leading to certification, and to prepare future trainers to supervise learners in turn.
Training will be provided at three levels:
- The first concerns informed professionals whose knowledge of AI is basic.
- the second group consists of knowledgeable professionals who are capable of acting and evaluating systems;
- Finally, the third group consists of experienced professionals who have mastered its use.
Train 28,000 students, high school students, and professionals
CAIRE's main targets are students in initial training at the five partner institutions, but particular attention will be paid to continuing education for professionals of all ages and levels. Awareness-raising activities are also planned for high school and post-baccalaureate students.
CAIRE aims to train 28,000 people across the country throughout the duration of the project.
Ethical questions surrounding AI
The training courses will focus on the new challenges posed by AI and the transformations it is bringing about in the world of work through a wide range of topics: robotics, strengthening education in mathematics and computer science, impact on HR policy, cybersecurity, etc.
Ethical considerations surrounding AI, which must go hand in hand with environmental sustainability, will also be on the agenda. The aim is to reflect on the impact of human decisions produced by an AI system.
The CAIRE project will thus train economic actors to meet the needs of businesses by adapting and supporting professions that are directly or indirectly related to artificial intelligence: those based on a strong digital and technological foundation (multimedia, networks, telecommunications), technical foundation (industry, biology, mechanics, construction), as well as those in the legal, organizational, and commercial fields.
Results published throughout the country
The results of CAIRE will be disseminated throughout the country through the collection of learning data, the identification of practices and uses, a series of white papers, and annual theme days for training providers and businesses. Finally, an international symposium is planned for Paris in 2028.
