Arts et Métiers AMVALOR are joining forces with ten French and Italian partners to support small and medium-sized industrial companies in their transition to decarbonization.

Background

The European Union has set itself the target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 80 to 95% by 2050, compared to 1990 levels. In France and Italy, the National Low Carbon Strategy and the Piano nazionale per la Transizione Ecologica (PTE) also set ambitious targets for 2030.

Industry is a strategic sector for the European economy, but it is also responsible for a significant proportion of greenhouse gas emissions, with industrial companies alone accounting for almost 25% ofCO2 emissions in Europe. The ALCOTRA territory, an Alpine region between France and Italy, includes historic industrial sectors made up of small and medium-sized enterprises whose individual emissions are far lower than those of large industrial groups, but which represent significant emissions at the sector level.

Due to their size and lack of resources, these companies are currently unable to contribute to decarbonization efforts. The large number of different and complex methods, tools, and contacts does not encourage them to engage in this process.

Project description

The Mission Carb 0 project aims to accelerate their decarbonization and launch a regional initiative through experimentation in strategic industrial sectors within the project's geographical area. Using a common methodology, they will benefit from a simplified carbon assessment and individual and collective support to implement measures to reduce theirCO2 emissions. The creation of a cross-border knowledge base will also make it possible to capitalize on best practices in each sector and thus promote deployment across a wider territory and/or by integrating other sectors of activity.

Arts et Métiers AMVALOR will contribute their expertise in environmental assessment of the life cycle of goods and services in order to define a simplified carbon diagnosis methodology that will be made available to companies via an online platform developed by the Savoie Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Chambéry institute will also be involved in the rollout of the tool through its participation in awareness-raising workshops and by carrying out assessments in the Savoie region.
