Discover a new episode of the ParolesArts et Métiers podcastArts et Métiers Xavier Mackré on the topic of "Doing a PhD at Arts et Métiers the circular economy with the Urban Mining Chair."

Because Arts à Métiers supports doctoral theses and sustainable development is one of its research topics, Xavier Mackré, a doctoral student—and soon-to-be doctor—at the Laboratory Processes and Engineering in Mechanics and Materials (PIMM), is with us in this episode to discuss doctoral studies at Arts et Métiers, as well as plastic recycling and the Urban Mining Chair.

PhD student at the Processes and Engineering in Mechanics and Materials (PIMM), Xavier Mackré is completing a thesis on the Nanostructuring of polymer blends applied to the recycling of polymers from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment under the supervision of Cyrille Sollogoub, Bruno Fayolle, and Matthieu Gervais. To prepare for this doctorate, he enrolled in the Arts et Métiers doctoral program in theDoctoral School 432 "Engineering Sciences".

A graduate of the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, with a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec, he worked during his master's degree on the microfabrication of triple-junction solar cells with rear contacts (GaInP, GaAs, Ge) with the design of a process and a set of masks, clean room work (photolithography, dry and wet etching, electron and optical microscopy, etc.).

Member of theAssociation of Doctors and Doctoral Students ofArts et Métiers (ADDAM), he organizes seminars on the environment on the Paris campus.

He is one of the collaborators of Arts et Métiers Urban Mining Chair, of which Carole Charbuillet, Lecturer and Researcher in Circular Economy at the Arts Métiers Institute in Chambéry, is the representative for the School. The Urban Mining Chair aims to contribute to the implementation of a circular economy model for electrical and electronic equipment. This model is designed to respect the principles of sustainable development and benefit citizens, manufacturers, recycling operators, and local communities. The Urban Mining Chair works with three partner schools, Mines ParisTech, Chimie ParisTech and Arts et Métiers.
