Cosmopolitan is the ideal adjective to describe the career of Abdul Rahman Abdel Razek, Doctor Arts et Métiers the LAMPA laboratory located on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers and at the Institut de Laval.

 

 

Born in Cairo, Egypt, 33 years ago, Abdul Rahman Abdel Razek began his schooling at an international school, where he was already exposed to a mosaic of different cultures. At the age of 22, he became a mechatronics and robotics engineer and worked for several years for the American company Coca-Cola, in an environment that was just as multicultural.

Join a German-funded research project

In 2009, he moved to Europe—specifically Germany—where he pursued a Master of Science Computer Science and Business Consulting. Meticulous and punctual by nature, he adapted easily to life in Germany. He was also convinced that this country had a bright future in the industrial and manufacturing sectors, so he settled permanently in Germany in 2013 and was appointed head ofthe Service Lab atFurtwangen University. In this academic setting, he led a research project titled “Smart Service, focusing on service prototyping and immersive technologies, funded by his host country.

Developing collaborations with LAMPA Arts et Métiers

As part of his research project, his main mission is to support SMEs in digitizing and developing their smart service offerings. He quickly identified opportunities for collaboration with Arts et Métiers laboratories Arts et Métiers the field of immersive technologies and innovation, and met Simon Richir, Head of the Presence & Innovation team at LAMPA, at an ICE (International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation) conference in Italy. This meeting was the starting point in 2016 for his PhD between the University of Furtwangen and LAMPA, more specifically within the Presence & Innovation team in Laval. This research team is constantly strengthening its academic and industrial partnerships, keen to assert its position as a player in the Industry of the Future.

Immersion in local communities

Abdul Rahman Abdel Razek juggles languages. Arabic with his family, German for everyday life, English for his research work, and French with his colleagues at Arts et Métiers.

I completed my PhD between two research laboratories, which was a truly enriching experience. One was in Germany and the other in France. I love this international environment, which requires adaptability and open-mindedness!
