Paul Stief, a doctoral student at the Design, Manufacturing and Control Laboratory (LCFC) on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Metz, will defend his thesis entitled "Contribution to the co-design of products and their reconfigurable production systems" on Friday, June 19 at 9:30 a.m. This thesis was completed as part of the industrial research chair " Reconfigurable, Safe, High-Performance Production Systems."

 

Paul Stief's thesis work focuses on developing a methodology for designing a reconfigurable assembly production system. The goal is to take into account the relevant elements for designing a production line that can be easily and quickly adapted in the event of a change in production, whether for new products and/or new volumes.

Summary

"The thesis proposes a method supporting the co-design of products and their assembly processes. It structures and guides the analysis of product similarity in terms of design and assembly technologies used, in order to group them into product families.

For these families, a new approach to the architectural design of their assembly system is presented: this is based on identifying the components used to position sub-assemblies during assembly operations. It also makes it possible to rethink the production system based on positioning sequences, their compatibility, and the sequencing of operations by positioning for multi-product assembly.

This approach makes it possible to design reconfigurable production systems and identify technical and operational opportunities for designing multi-product systems. The proposed method has been successfully tested in several industrial cases in cooperation with our partner in order to demonstrate its value.
