On January 5, 2022, Nathanael DOUGIER will defend his thesis work conducted at the Lispen laboratory, "Systemic modeling for the multi-objective optimization of electrical microgrids," on the Aix-en-Provence campus (lecture hall J001, 2:00 p.m.).

Summary

Climate change and the increasing scarcity of certain fossil fuels are causing society's expectations regarding energy production to evolve. The development of new electricity supply systems must take various impacts into account. One of the developments in the electricity mix involves combining production technologies (conventional or renewable) and storage technologies in a local sub-network: a microgrid.

This thesis proposes to size microgrids by considering several economic, technical, and environmental objectives. The proposal of this work consists of taking control aspects into account in the design parameters of microgrids and integrating this modeling into a multi-objective optimization algorithm without weighting.

A decision-making tool was therefore developed. After identifying the challenges involved in modeling and optimizing energy systems, a sequential simulation of microgrid operation was set up, enriched with various performance indicators (technical, environmental, and economic) and implemented in a genetic algorithm. Several solutions, representing compromises between the objectives, were then found, making it possible to broaden the design space. These results were analyzed and the evaluation and optimization requirements were verified on a realistic case study.
The performance of the approach was validated by comparison with other reference software (HOMER and iHOGA/MHOGA).
