Training for the factory of the future through a professional training contract

Management of the factory of the future for Arts et Métiers general engineering students
Testimonial

Bastien Chambragne is a general engineering student in his final year of study, specializing in Factory of the Future Management (MUF). For him, MUF expertise is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the concept of the industry of the future, which companies are constantly talking about. He answered a few questions.

Why choose the Factory of the Future Management expertise?

The main reason I chose this specialization is because it is a work-study program. I was tired of sitting in school and wanted to put my skills to use in a company as soon as possible.

Were you interested in the industry of the future before joining this field of expertise?

I have always been interested in new technologies. I was familiar with the most widely publicized ones, but I had not yet really seen in detail how these technologies worked and how to leverage them to their full potential.

What do you enjoy about teaching this expertise?

There are only five of us in our class. Being in a small group has allowed us to have classes that are more tailored to our needs. The teacher/student barrier is broken down and the class becomes a discussion around a given topic rather than a monologue by one person with students who aren't listening at the back of the lecture hall.

This expertise is provided through a professional training contract. What are the advantages of this?

One very advantageous aspect of the professional contract is, let's not deny it, that we get paid even when we are on leave. What's more, we spend six months longer than an intern in the company, which allows us to get involved in more projects and see more things through to completion.

What are your plans for the company?

I work at Thales, at the corporate level, in the Digital Industry team, which supports all of the group's entities, in France and abroad, in their industrial digital transformation. In this department, I am responsible for managing two projects in particular: one on the development and deployment of a user-friendly interface for technicians on repair lines, and the other on the deployment of the aerospace platform (AirSupply) between Thales and its suppliers for the supply of mechanical and electronic equipment to all Thales entities in France.

Are you satisfied with your decision to choose MUF's expertise?

Oh yes! And for several reasons:

  • I am paid,
  • I participate in large-scale projects for the company,
  • The classes are interesting,
  • I am surrounded by new technologies,
  • It is the only expertise in France that deals with Industry 4.0 as a whole, and demand from companies is high.

What does MUF offer you for your future career?

Sufficient knowledge of technologies and numerous decision-making tools to be able to evolve within the company.

Do you know what industry you would like to work in after you graduate?

Now I know that I want to work in digital transformation. Companies are constantly talking about Industry 4.0 at the moment, and doing a work-study program in this field has helped me confirm my choice!

What are third-year assessments?

General engineering students follow a core curriculum in their first and second years. The third year allows them to specialize in their chosen field. To do so, they can choose between research master's degrees, dual degrees in France or abroad, or internal Arts et Métiers career paths Arts et Métiers areas of expertise. In total, Arts et Métiers around 30 areas of expertise that are closely linked to the skills taught at the campuses offering them.
