Namma is a start-up that manufactures hybrid machines (combining several manufacturing processes such as machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting in a single machine) founded by four former bachelor's degree students and now based on the Bordeaux-Talence campus.
Clément, Robin, Tom, and Mickael, four former students from the Bachelor's degree program and the specialized engineering program in "Mechanics, Production-Maintenance option" at the Bordeaux-Talence campus, founded the start-up Namma in 2021. The idea for this start-up emerged during their participation in a competition to design an innovative product using CAD (Computer-Aided Design).
Multiple technologies in the same machine
Alternating between design and methods offices, the four classmates took stock of the needs and observed a gap in prototyping and tooling. They decided to combine several technologies in the same machine: an interface and the ability to create several types of parts from different types of materials. After winning the competition, the students continued to develop their idea as part of their final year project and produced the first prototype with financial support from the competition prize and various partners.
The four engineering students decided to take their project further and joined Pépite France, which helps connect business creation projects by students and recent graduates with companies and support and financing structures. This training, which they undertook alongside their studies, enabled them to connect with a regional incubator and create a business plan.
In their case, they were put in touch with the Unitec incubator in Bordeaux, which would handle the search for funding.
Then everything falls into place naturally. They approach their first customer and then launch their production. Namma now has nine employees and around ten contracts.
We've come full circle: the young and motivated team is based on the Bordeaux-Talence campus, where it all began.
