"We found out about this competition through Agnès Bourg, a teacher in Cluny. At the speed dating event, which took place in Chalon-sur-Saône, I proposed an idea that I had sketched out in my notebook, and I am happy to have motivated my classmates to work on a new self-defense product. It blinds the attacker with a strong light," says Léo Gonton, the project's initiator.

Together with his classmates Driss Benyakhlef, Lucas Magd, and Maxence Chovet, Léo wanted to create a technological device that was portable, discreet, and effective, which users could clip onto various items they carry around with them every day.

They were accompanied by Rodolphe Uhlmann, coach of the three Arts et Métiers teams Arts et Métiers challenge, who helped them approach their project from different angles and get back to basics: "create a business around a product, not the other way around."

What's next? Students want to develop their business creation ideas in their second year with a career project and test the foundations of their business through the expertise of the third-year CREDA program.

  • Léo, who holds a bachelor's degree in physics and chemistry, will draw on the energy provided by this award, which represents genuine recognition, to see his project through to completion.

  • Lucas, his teammate, who studied preparatory classes in mathematics and physics, recognized the managerial added value of this competition, which complements his general Arts et Métiers training Arts et Métiers .

The Eco-Responsibility, Eco-Design, and Sustainable Development Award was won by the Bread to Beer project.

"Our company's goal is to collect unsold bread from bakeries and connect them with brewers for beer production," explains Jonas Caillet, who came up with the idea .

"To do this, we will manufacture a bread grinding machine that will be installed directly in bakeries. It will be connected and will tell us the temperature, humidity, and amount of bread needed to trigger the rising process and distribution to brewers,"adds Evan Bruchet.

"Our team includes Emilia Rincón, a student at ENSAIA in Nancy. Emilia has contributed her expertise on all health and ISO standards issues," explains Valentin Blaise.

His team was able to draw on the skills of their classmates. They incorporated their business idea into the curriculum. As a result, around tenfirst- andsecond-year students helped him develop his project as part of their career projects.

"We also benefited from external partners: the Polisson bakery and pastry shop and the Zouaffe Craft Brewery in Cluny and Bee 2 Beep, which gave us an electronic scale, "says Arthur Janning.
