Meeting with Victor Scamps, third-year student in the Grande Ecole Program, and Alexandre Honore, Head of Engineering at Pellenc ST.
Victor Scamps is studying INNUI program on the Aix-en-Provence campus. He discusses the reasons that led him to sign a professional training contract in his final year of studies. His mentor explains why his company chose to hire an Arts et Métiers student Arts et Métiers a professional training contract.

Why did you choose to specialize in professional training contracts in your third year?

The decision to complete this final year under a professional training contract came quite naturally. This program allows students to combine professional experience with academic knowledge from the start of the year. It encourages students to take responsibility while helping them gain independence and rigor. The first six months (during which students spend two days a week at the company and the rest on campus) are an ideal time to understand how the company works, learn about its culture, and discover and master its internal processes. This rhythm allows me, at the end of this semester, to be ready to take on important projects with more responsibilities until the end of my contract.

This program has many strengths. The expertise covers a wide range of topics and provides a comprehensive and relevant overview. It also allows students to gain real professional experience, enabling them to showcase their knowledge and apply it to the reality of the business world. Victor Scamps

How does the company that hosts you contribute to your training?

The company contributes to my training in two ways. First, it generally allows me to explore and apply the concepts I learn in class. In my professional environment, I encounter key elements of our program, such as the creation of a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, the integration of AI, and the recurring use of collaborative tools and CAD software. On the other hand, the company allows me to deepen my knowledge in many areas, such as the circular economy, project management, and international trade.

In addition, I can benefit from both educational and professional guidance to enrich my experience. Finally, it is a significant added value to have been able to spend a year acquiring knowledge specific to company employees, which is less easy to develop in a standard curriculum, before leaving school.

The Arts et Métiers program Arts et Métiers very broad-based, allowing students to avoid becoming confined to a single sector. Many doors are open to us, and we should take advantage of this to explore the fields that interest us. Victor Scamps

What are the benefits for a company in hiring an Arts et Métiers student Arts et Métiers a professional training contract?

The company I work for, Pellenc ST, designs and manufactures intelligent sorting machines for the recycling industry, with a view to creating a healthier and more sustainable environment. Committed to a rapidly changing world, its ambitions are now turning to new technologies such as artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 , and connected machines, areas of expertise that are also thoseArts et Métiers.

Alexandre Honore, Engineering Manager, explains, "This professional development period is a real opportunity to train future employees by allowing them to combine their theoretical knowledge with current and future industrial challenges and the reality of the field."

For Kim Fabre, Recruitment and HR Manager, "in this context of change and passion, every year we bring in new talent from Arts et Métiers share our ambitions and want to support the circular economy with us."

The professional training contract represents a real opportunity for us to recruit a motivated work-study student, who is considered a pre-employee in the process of acquiring new skills. Alexandre Honore

What are your responsibilities and the projects you are involved in?

Today, I work as a project engineer. My role is to manage new construction projects (sale of high-tech sorting machines, waste sorting) from contract signing to final acceptance by the customer. This means paying close attention to costs, logistics, and the physical integration of the machines on the customer's site. Knowledge of project management, management, languages, and CAD, combined with a good understanding of technology, is very useful throughout this process.

What is the key point to remind a student to encourage them to continue their third year under a professional training contract?

It should be noted that by the end of their studies, students will have matured and gained invaluable experience. They will have discovered one or more new professions and will have been able to refine their career plans, and perhaps even found their calling.
