On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Lille was delighted to welcome, in partnership with Lille City Hall, a group of around forty children from the city's daycare centers.
The aim of this event was to introduce the school and its laboratories while highlighting the commitment of women scientists on campus.
The Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Lille welcomes 40 children for International Day of Women and Girls in Science
To celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Lille opened its doors on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to around 40 children from Lille's leisure centers. This immersion in the heart of the school and its laboratories was designed to spark scientific curiosity in young children and highlight the essential role of women in research and engineering.
Workshops led by women in science
For this day dedicated to discovery and scientific curiosity, several faculty members, doctoral students, and students from the campus came together to offer children immersive, fun activities tailored to their age group.
Objective: to inspire vocations and show that science and technology are accessible to everyone.
A rich and memorable program
Young visitors had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of science and technology through a series of hands-on experiments:
- Taking photos with a thermal camera with Sophie Simonet, teacher-researcher at LMFL
A fun way to learn about temperature and insulation! - Observation of a hornet under a scanning electron microscope with Myriam Dumont, lecturer and researcher at MSMP
A spectacular immersion into the world of the infinitely small, where children were able to gradually zoom out to guess what the "mystery object" was and discover details invisible to the naked eye. - Robotics demonstration with Ana-Sofia Jesus Goncalves and Karen Issa, doctoral students at LISPEN
Presentation of robots and discussion of their applications in the cookie manufacturing industry. - Mini science experiments led by students to introduce young people to science and technology studies and careers through fun workshops tailored to their age group.
These workshops were designed to raise children's awareness of careers in science and technology, spark their curiosity, and show them that women play an essential role in these fields!
A strong commitment to promoting scientific culture
By participating in this event organized by the City of Lille, Arts et Métiers its commitment to promoting science among young people, particularly girls, who are still underrepresented in technology and engineering fields.
This event marks a new step in the Lille campus's commitment to promoting equal opportunities, strengthening ties with the local community, and actively participating in the dissemination of scientific culture.
This meeting is part of a series of initiatives set up and coordinated by Olivier Roussette, research engineer at LMFL and representative of the Lille campus for the mission to promote science and technology among young people.
Congratulations to all the staff and students who worked hard to make this event possible, as well as to the young visitors for their curiosity and insightful questions!
